Exceptional Growth with Broda Transport Wheelchairs

Kevin Hedrington knows what it’s like to experience accessibility challenges. Much Better Than a Geri Chair

Mike McAdams, ATP has over 24 years of experience in skilled nursing and long-term care. “Skilled nursing has too many basic, generic solutions, like geri chairs, that do more harm than good. If you had chairs like Broda offers with infinite adjustability and positioning pads, you’d be able to alter them from patient to patient and meet each person’s specific needs. Each Broda wheelchair lasts for so many years and can be repurposed for multiple patients.”

Saving 75% on NEMT Costs

When it comes to non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) in long-term care, many facility administrators find themselves paying an arm and a leg. This was certainly the case for Brian Murphy during his time as the Executive Director of Mountain View Care Center, a skilled nursing facility (SNF) in Tuscon, AZ. His costs were high and his residents were being transported via gurney rather than in a comfortable transport wheelchair. With Broda, he helped his facility save 75% on NEMT.

Improving Seating Tolerance Like No Other

“With the design of the Comfort Tension Seating® system of the Broda line of wheelchairs, the patient experience and quality of life in our facility has improved with the tolerance of being able to sit for longer periods to enjoy getting rehab care and doing activities away from the bedside. Broda’s Synthesis Positioning Wheelchair with the adjustable seat tilt and back recline features helped these patients develop a tolerance for sitting, a feature unavailable in a standard bedside geriatric or reclining chair.

Sashay Pedal Wheelchair

Reducing Sheer Force

We have found the Broda Pedal Wheelchair beneficial in reducing the need to use added restraints and even more it has improved out-of-bed positioning for our residents. The chair enables a resident’s position to be changed by tilting instead of reclining. This is beneficial in that changing position with tilting instead of reclining reduces the sheering forces in the areas of the sacrum, coccyx, and ischial tuberosities thus reducing the potential for skin integrity problems. The Pedal Chair also enables residents, with the ability, to be independently mobile while in a tilted position which decreases the fatigue of the trunk musculature by not having to support their upper body in a fully upright position all day.

A Sturdy & Reliable Wheelchair for My Dad

My dad had dementia accompanied by a gradual loss of motor abilities. We cared for him at home, but he couldn’t sit upright and he was scooting and sliding out of his standard wheelchair. The tilt feature and high back helped his posture and the full range of motion (sitting to reclining) greatly helped prevent bed sores. The tilt feature also made it easy to shave him and brush his teeth. Whenever he was out of bed, he was in his Broda chair. It was sturdy, reliable, and worked wonderfully.

Total Comfort, Less Anxiety, & Increased Mobility

My mother has osteoporosis and arthritis with muscle weakness and bone and joint discomfort. Since she received this new Broda Encore Pedal Wheelchair with dynamic rocking, she has total comfort and less anxiety with increased mobility. We hope to see muscle and bone strengthening as she lost her ability to ambulate more than a few steps on her good days these last few months. She is legally blind, seeing only light and dark these last 2 years. She just celebrated her 96th birthday and lived alone until age 93. This chair has met her very important needs of comfort, safety, strengthening, mobility.

Pain Reversed & Comfort Achieved

We had an elderly resident with dementia who experienced a painful fall. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her family was unable to visit. She refused to eat or drink and was not compliant with her care. I could tell that her health was declining FAST and we needed to find a way to keep her comfortable enough to eat. We put her in a Broda Midline at first and she improved. Next, we rented a Broda pedal wheelchair with a pelvic positioning belt and she was comfortable enough to move around, eat, and regain energy. Broda wheelchairs are ideal for residents in her situation for comfort and pain relief.

Latitude Pedal Rocker

Dignity for a Down Syndrome Client

I had a client with a diagnosis of Down syndrome. He was unable to walk and had scooted on the floor his entire life. He had a significant pressure injury on his coccyx and was a safety concern for himself and others. An assessment was completed with the Latitude (Rocker) Wheelchair and it worked perfectly for him. He was able to recreate the same scooting movements he always had with the Latitude’s low seat surface height and the rocking engaged. Along with the pressure redistribution of the Comfort Tension Seating®, this allowed the injury to begin healing. It was so great to see him off the floor for the first time and his reaction let everyone know he was happy with his new wheelchair.

Vacation Freedom with Broda

“My brother who has ALS is completely paralyzed. We had a dream of taking him to his summer home in Vermont. The Synthesis [Positioning Wheelchair] went above and beyond to provide him with a comfortable wheelchair that allowed him to enjoy everything he wanted, including visiting with friends, hanging out at our boathouse, and even going on the boat itself! It was a nice change of pace over having to stay in bed all day.”

Our Patients Love the Bariatric Options

We’ve experienced a recent demand for bariatric care products. The Broda Revive Bariatric Shower Chair is exactly what we needed for our patients. It is a safe and comfortable seating system that is able to accommodate a weight of up to 800 lbs. The transition from bed to chair allows for ease in transfers due to the tilt in space/recline feature. The shower chair also doubles as a commode, so pts. don’t have to make two separate transfers. The strapping material and frame of the model makes for ease in cleaning also. Our patients love the chair!

Broda Kept My Wife Comfortable

My wife was in a nursing home for more than 5 years battling with Alzheimer’s. During her last years, she couldn’t move or get in/out of bed…As a result of her condition, she needed a very comfortable wheelchair. I checked with Medicare and they only covered stiff, straight-up, non-padded wheelchairs. My wife’s caring facility got her a Broda…which I paid a monthly fee for rental. After less than a year, I decided to purchase the wheelchair for my wife to keep her comfortable. During her last year, she was very comfortable in her padded Broda Midline Chair. I would highly recommend this Broda product to anyone who is in need of a very comfortable wheelchair in a nursing home, senior care facility, or even at home.
