Exceptional Growth with Broda Transport Wheelchairs

Kevin Hedrington knows what it’s like to experience accessibility challenges. As a disabled veteran, Kevin decided to start a business offering friendly, reliable non-emergency medical transportation for the people of his home city, Battle Creek, Michigan. For his business, he uses the Synthesis Transport Wheelchair. “It fits the need for a travel wheelchair at a quality much higher than other WC19 certified wheelchairs.”

Much Better Than a Geri Chair

Mike McAdams, ATP has over 24 years of experience in skilled nursing and long-term care. “Skilled nursing has too many basic, generic solutions, like geri chairs, that do more harm than good. If you had chairs like Broda offers with infinite adjustability and positioning pads, you’d be able to alter them from patient to patient and meet each person’s specific needs. Each Broda wheelchair lasts for so many years and can be repurposed for multiple patients.”

Saving 75% on NEMT Costs

When it comes to non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) in long-term care, many facility administrators find themselves paying an arm and a leg. This was certainly the case for Brian Murphy during his time as the Executive Director of Mountain View Care Center, a skilled nursing facility (SNF) in Tuscon, AZ. His costs were high and his residents were being transported via gurney rather than in a comfortable transport wheelchair. With Broda, he helped his facility save 75% on NEMT.

Improving Seating Tolerance Like No Other

“With the design of the Comfort Tension Seating® system of the Broda line of wheelchairs, the patient experience and quality of life in our facility has improved with the tolerance of being able to sit for longer periods to enjoy getting rehab care and doing activities away from the bedside. Broda’s Synthesis Positioning Wheelchair with the adjustable seat tilt and back recline features helped these patients develop a tolerance for sitting, a feature unavailable in a standard bedside geriatric or reclining chair.

Broda Kept My Wife Comfortable

My wife was in a nursing home for more than 5 years battling with Alzheimer’s. During her last years, she couldn’t move or get in/out of bed…As a result of her condition, she needed a very comfortable wheelchair. I checked with Medicare and they only covered stiff, straight-up, non-padded wheelchairs. My wife’s caring facility got her a Broda…which I paid a monthly fee for rental. After less than a year, I decided to purchase the wheelchair for my wife to keep her comfortable. During her last year, she was very comfortable in her padded Broda Midline Chair. I would highly recommend this Broda product to anyone who is in need of a very comfortable wheelchair in a nursing home, senior care facility, or even at home.

I Wish We’d Gotten a Broda Wheelchair Sooner!

As my Mom’s dementia progressed, she needed a wheelchair. After a few years, she was prescribed a rehab-style tilt wheelchair, but she was so uncomfortable – she would fidget and slide out of the chair. After several falls, I worked with the Occupational Therapists to find an alternative wheelchair for that would be comfortable and safe. We decided on the Broda Elite Positioning Wheelchair. What a difference now that Mom is safe and comfortable. It gives me peace of mind to know that she is sitting in a Broda chair. My only regret is that I did not get this chair sooner for her.

Vanguard Bariatric Wheelchair Front 45

A Carefully Thought-Out Bariatric Product

We were so pleased with how the Vanguard Bariatric Wheelchair allowed us to provide a way to get our resident out of bed and provided a way for her to be upright and to participate in many facility activities which she couldn’t safely do in her standard bariatric wheelchair. By using the removable armrests, our staff was able to use a mechanical lift to safely transfer the resident without injury. Several staff members commented on how the tracking brake feature allowed them to propel the wheelchair safely in a straight path with decreased stress on their bodies. The manual foot pump also allowed staff to position the resident comfortably for upright sitting activities with minimal stress. Overall we were very pleased with the features and performance of this wheelchair and would choose it again. Thank you for creating such a carefully thought-out product!

Happier & More Comfortable than Ever

We are currently using an Elite Positioning Wheelchair for a resident with Huntington’s Disease. We were very concerned about his safety and comfort until we tried the Broda wheelchair. Now, he is happier and more comfortable than we have ever seen him. We are very pleased with how much the Broda chairs help. We also recently purchased a Broda Pedal Chair and a Glider. Both of these have also helped improve the quality of life for our residents.

Hope for My Alzheimer’s Patient

We have a woman in our facility with Alzheimer’s Disease who was slumping forward in her chair with her head in her lap. She was very uncomfortable and had become unsociable and extremely grumpy. We placed her in the Broda Pedal chair and were amazed at the immediate change in her disposition. She not only sat upright, but she started pedaling around in the chair. She had such an improvement in her posture and attitude and we were able to reduce her medication dosage.

Latitude Pedal Rocker

Dignity for a Down Syndrome Client

I had a client with a diagnosis of Down syndrome. He was unable to walk and had scooted on the floor his entire life. He had a significant pressure injury on his coccyx and was a safety concern for himself and others. An assessment was completed with the Latitude (Rocker) Wheelchair and it worked perfectly for him. He was able to recreate the same scooting movements he always had with the Latitude’s low seat surface height and the rocking engaged. Along with the pressure redistribution of the Comfort Tension Seating®, this allowed the injury to begin healing. It was so great to see him off the floor for the first time and his reaction let everyone know he was happy with his new wheelchair.

Increasing Quality of Life at School

I work with a young man named Mason. Mason is 19 years old and has had his Broda chair for approximately two and a half years. The Broda chair is what I would consider as life-changing for him. It has been a positive and significant influence in Mason’s quality of life here at school.

I Had Broda on Speed Dial

I was introduced to Broda in 2010 when I worked as a Rehab LPN in Long Term Care. I would request these chairs frequently and had the Broda representative on speed dial. Whenever I had a client needing a wheelchair for comfort, dementia sensory issues (we always chose the pedal rocker wheelchairs). As families witnessed the change that a Broda made, they would purchase one.
